Biography

Baran Say

Born in Izmir in 1980, he started playing classical guitar at the age of 10. Because of his fascination with grunge rock, he switched to electric guitar and played in high school bands. Due to demand he finally settled on e-bass. At 18 his search for new musical inspiration turned him to the (then)-newly flourishing drum&bass and IDM genres through which he also came to appreciate jazz music. A year later he decided to pursue a career in music and enrolled at Konservatorium der Stadt Wien. There he studied electric and acoustic bass with Uli Langthaler. Playing sessions and drum&bass bands he stayed in Vienna a couple years and finally resettled in Istanbul. Since 2004 he resides in Istanbul and is an active acoustic bass player in the Istanbul Jazz scene. He has collaborated with many prominent figures of the scene (to name a few Kiesa Brown, İmer Demirer, Aşkın Arsunan, Volkan Öktem, Yahya Dai, Şenova Ülker, Kerem Görsev, Sibel Köse, Elvan Aracı, Baki Duyarlar, Selen Gulun and Emin Findikoglu.)
