Traditionalists love two-channel Hi-Fi.
Forward-thinkers love networking and music streaming.
With Yamaha Network Hi-Fi receivers, you get both.
Here’s a guide to the current lineup,
along with a description of their salient features.

Hi-Fi, also known as High Fidelity, is a term which refers to pinnacle of high-quality music reproduction. To help you understand, Hi-Fi aims to makes their speaker sounded exactly like how the original singer sounded, imagine the singer/celebrity sings at you in the same room, that’s what Hi-Fi aims to do !

And the best part is this is not limited to only the golden times artist, we could even have Hi-Fi quality at any new modern artist, let’s just mention Celine Dion for now.

Of course, I got you, Hi-Fi does come in a lot of different forms, let’s just say the long and short way for now.

The
Longer version
(Pure but slightly more expensive) of Hi-Fi requires

1x Pre-amplifier, 1x Power amplifier (Amplifier)
1x Streaming Receiver (Source of Music)
1x CD player / Turntable (Source of Music)

Hook these up with a pair of speakers – Voila ! Music plays.

The
Shorter version
(Digital but easily accessible) of Hi-Fi requires

1x Network Integrated Receiver & Amplifier
(Pre+Power Amplifier, Streaming combined)

Connect to a pair of speakers – Voila ! Music plays.

Excuse me Audiophiles, we still do agree that turntables and CD has a better quality in sound reproduction in terms of lesser distortion and lesser noise, cleaner and sharper, and a better imaging. Yet here is the simpler version for people who wanted to enjoy it in a simpler way without a complicated system at all.

Analog vs Digital Music Source

A huge term you will see when you are surveying, Analog simply refers to source that does not require any process digitally, usually refer to vinyl records. As a matter of fact, most audiophiles prefer their amplifiers to be analog to ensure the purest form of music reproduction, when it’s dedicated, it’s performing much better.

Digital on the other hand refers to Music Source such as CD and online streaming services (Tidal, Deezer, Amazon Music, Spotify etc) which simply requires a DAC (Digital to Analog converter) in an Amplifier to read these sources. Let’s face it, a streamer in an amplifier definitely makes up the convenience.

Stereo vs Surround?

Stereo means a pair of speakers (Left & Right) while Surround means a set of speakers (more than 5) surrounding your room/seat.

Music is best enjoyed in stereo mode for the level of realism, involving separation among instruments, illusion of space (Room), and a phantom central channel. In short, music sounds better with 2 speakers placed in front of you.

Movies on the other hand could use additional speakers to do imaging of scene and realism of actions and dramas. The surrounds will create a spatial feel where best enjoyed on an AV setup instead.

Therefore, Hi-Fi uses Stereo and only Stereo.

Hi-Fi today?

Hi-Fi has come to a long way since the 50s, with integration of networks, online contents such as Tidal, Spotify, Amazon Music, Deezer etc, it’s just a much better and easier way to enjoy music.

Why Network is important?

Network has been introduced into amplifiers, resulting endless possibilities. A network can first of all allows you to access files in your home/remote server, where you can have cloud server for all your digital contents, and playback can be seamless done from your receiver to speakers.

Quick geeky info, network allows users to stream at perfect quality. Besides that, there will be access to Yamaha’s proprietary renowned application – MusicCast

The answer is here, Yamaha’s very own R-N Series.
