Smart New PoE/Dante speaker for Conferencing Solutions

June 7, 2018. Shizuoka, Japan. – Yamaha Corporation has announced the launching of VXL1-16P PoE/Dante speaker and SWR2311P-10G Intelligent L2 PoE switch at InfoComm2018, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from June 2, 2018.

Recent years have seen the increased utilization of IT technology and networking in the professional audio market, and numerous sound system devices now use these technologies. Particularly notable is the increased use of PoE (Power over Ethernet) which supplies electrical power via an Ethernet cable (category 5e or higher), so that a single Ethernet cable can supply electrical power as well as control devices and distribute audio, thereby simplifying connections between devices.

The VXL1-16P supports the "Dante" audio network, and use a slim line-array configuration, making them an easy fit perfectly for conference rooms (in the size range of 12m × 10m) that demand vocal clarity while imposing numerous constraints on space, and require both functionality and a sense of design. The SWR2311P-10G provides ample PoE power supply for driving the VXL1-16P as well as transmitting Dante audio and control signals. Using them with the "MRX7-D" Dante-network-enabled signal processor allows an intelligent conference room system to be constructed.

1.VXL1-16P speaker system

With audio distributed via a Dante network and PoE power* supplied from a PoE compliant L2 switch, the speaker system can be constructed as a network, allowing existing IT infrastructure to be effectively utilized. Simple wiring via LAN cables, easy installation, and no need for a power amp contribute to the flexibility of installation, allowing you to construct an elegant sound system that will not interfere with the design of the conference room.

* When using an IEEE802.3at compliant PoE power sourcing equipment, the maximum speaker output is 15W; when using an IEE802.3af compliant PoE power sourcing equipment, the maximum speaker output is 6W.

The VXL1-16P is equipped with 16 drivers. A line array configuration is used, placing the audio sources linearly to reduce sound dispersion in the vertical direction, thereby limiting reflections from the ceiling and walls, and preventing sound energy from being dispersed, ensuring that clear sound can be delivered to long distance. The drivers are 3.75 cm (1.5 inch) full-range units that extravagantly use neodymium magnets, and are placed in a slim enclosure (chassis) that is 5.4 cm wide. This allows easy installation even in locations that have various limitations on placement space, without impairing the décor of the office conference room. The VXL1-16P cover a broad area with 170° horizontal directionality.

Dedicated hardware is included with the product for wall mounting. In addition, a rich variety of options are separately available as speaker accessories, including the "WMB-L1B" and "WMB-L1W" wall mount brackets with adjustable vertical and horizontal angles, the "HCB-L1B" horizontal coupling bracket for horizontal connection for providing a high SPL with a narrower horizontal directionality of 120°. And the "PA-L1B" for pole-mounting the speaker, giving you flexibility for installing these in a variety of environments.VXL1-16P is available in black or white paint. But if basic black or white doesn't suit your visual requirements, they can be easily repainted as required.

This product can be remotely controlled from a "ProVisionaire Touch" custom control panel for the iPad via a Wi-Fi network. For example, operations such as adjusting the volume balance of conference audio that's input to an MRX7-D signal processor and raising the speaker volume can be performed from a single screen of an iPad.

2. "SWR2311P-10G" L2 switch

The "SWR2311P-10G" is an intelligent L2 switch that provides the ideal functionality for the "Dante" digital audio network that was developed by the Audinate Corporation and is now used world-wide, allowing construction of a stable network that simplifies settings, monitoring, management, and operation. When you connect the VXL1-16P to the SWR2311P-10G, optimal settings for Dante are made automatically via LLDP that is a protocol for passing system management data between a device and its neighboring device. PoE compliant ports can supply a maximum of 30W for all ports simultaneously.

Using the dedicated "Yamaha LAN Monitor" software allows quick troubleshooting; you can check the PoE power supply status, turn the PoE power supply, and use the snapshot function to inform you whether a fault has occurred by detecting any difference in the state of the network since it was set up. The web GUI provides a full range of monitoring functionality, including dead/alive monitoring settings for PoE powered devices, allowing you to restart the PoE powered device if a fault occurs, or informing you via email of a fault.

The separately sold "RK-SWR" rack mount accessory can be used to install the unit in a 19-inch rack, and you can use the "WK-SWR" wall mount accessory to mount the unit on the wall or ceiling, further expanding your choice of installation locations. In situations that require Dante devices to be connected across distances greater than 100 meters, you can use the "SFP-SWRG-SX" or "SFP-SWRG-LX" long-distance communication SFP modules to ensure reliable communication with minimal transmission loss and strong resistance to electromagnetic noise even across long distances.

General Manager of the Yamaha Pro Audio Division Yoshi Tsugawa comments:

We are confident that the VXL1-16P and SWR2311P-10G will contribute to smoother, more efficient system design and setup as well as improved operating ease and comfort for increasingly demanding conference system installations. At Yamaha we are always open to feedback from the field and ready to respond to the market so that our users benefit from sound systems that truly satisfy their needs.
