On the 10th of Feb 2012, Yamaha Music (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd together with the support of Japan Foundation, had the privilege of having Mr Hiroyuki Noritake to conduct a drum clinic for all musicians, students and drummers. The event was held at Sime Darby convention centre KL.
Mr Hiroyuki Noritake shared some thoughts which was an eye opener to the crowd. He relates the role of a drummer to that of a conductor in an orchestra. He said that beside keeping the right tempo, the drummers role is to provide indicators for the whole band as to where the song is heading. For example a "roll" or "fill" would indicate a transition to a chorus; a drop in dynamics indicate a transition to a softer part etc.
The clinic ended with Mr Noritake having and impromptu "jam session" with Yamaha local endorsees Jamie Wilson (guitarist), John Thomas (drummer) and a local musician Ken Chung on bass. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the clinic as Mr Noritake was so willing to share his experience and knowledge.
The Clinic was attended by about 130 from all over Malaysia.
