Band Idol 2012 Season 3

Eighteen Combo Bands from all over Malaysia battled out their talents in the Band Idol Season 3 organised by Yamaha Music School. They rocked the main atrium at Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya, Selangor on 2 December 2012 for a good three hours of lively music.

The one hundred participants were students of various ages and from various courses ranging from classical to popular instrumental musical instruments and music programmes at Yamaha Music Schools and Academy. The audience and judges were enraptured by the versatility and enthralling performance of these students who play together in a band environment and on varying types of instruments which were different from their course of study.

The humble beginnings of the Band Idol dates back to 2010 and it has made remarkable progress since. This event is a platform created for students under the Yamaha Popular Music Course (YPMC) and the Yamaha Music Education System Course (YMES), where they come together and form bands in order to demonstrate their talents and express their innermost feelings through singing and/or playing a musical instrument. This therefore came about as a good pedestal for these groups of budding musicians to not only play in a band but also to express their sentiments in front guests, audiences, family and friends; and a team of adjudicators.

The Yamaha Music Education System offers a great variety of courses to children as young as the age of three (3), as it is our cooperate philosophy that musicians of all ages are able to enjoy the magical moment in music making. And due to this fundamental believe upheld for decade of years, the Yamaha Popular Music Course (YPMC) was birthed. This unique course, available at Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels; is designed to cater for children age six (6) onwards, where a great variety of subjects - Strings, Vocal, Wind, Drums, Guitar and Keyboard are offered.

This competition is sub-divided into two (2) categories, namely the Junior Band and Open Band Category whereby contestants can showcase their talents and creative ideas by performing covers of well-known Pop songs from a great variety of genres, in their very own performance style.

The winners for the year 2012’s Band Idol Season 3 are selected by our invited panel of adjudicators who plays a great part in the music scene in Malaysia.
