Yamaha AW2816 MIDI Remote Template

Thank you for using Yamaha products.

AW2816 -- REMOTE -> Logic Audio

Installation
This template is stored in bulk MIDI data format. To install the template, use a MIDI sequencer to send the "la.mid" bulk data file to the AW2816. For information on receiving bulk data, see chapter 13 of the AW2816 owner's manual "MIDI -- Sending the AW2816's internal settings via MIDI (Bulk Dump)" or open the "la.prf" preference file in Logic.

Function Overview
This template makes it possible to remotely control from the AW2816 the volume and pan pot parameters of emagic Logic Audio music production software.

Features
The audio faders in Logic can be directly controlled using the 8 faders of the AW2816.

Feature Details
The faders of audio channels 1-16 are assigned to the faders of Remote Banks A and B, while the Mute ON/OFF function (Mute is active when the ON button is lit) is assigned to the ON button. The Pan Control of audio channels 1-16 is assigned to the faders of Remote Banks C and D, while the Pan Center command, which makes it possible to "center" the sound between the left and right positions, is assigned to the ON button.

Operation Procedure
1. Use a MIDI cable to connect the MIDI OUT/THRU terminal of the AW2816 to the MIDI IN terminal of the MIDI interface used by Logic.

2. Start Logic and, from the Option menu in the menu bar, choose Settings -> Key Commands...

3. A dialog box will appear. Select the "la.prf" preference file and click "Open."

On the Logic side, make sure that MIDI Remote under Options is checked.

Notes:
- Loading the Logic preference file will cause all User Command Key settings to return to their default settings. In such a case, you will have to manually re-enter any custom Command Key settings you had made.
- The LED of the AW2816's ON/OFF key will be unlit when muted, but when controlling Logic via remote, the LED will light up when muted. Thus, the AW2816's ON/OFF key is designed to light up when muted, to correspond to the display in Logic's screen.

Operation tested using Logic Audio Platinum (for Mac) V4.7.3 with a UX256 USB MIDI interface (as of November 2001).
